Traffic Surveys, Audits and Inventories

There are a number of different reasons why traffic and transportation data is needed to assist the evolution, maintenance and safety of the highway network. We use the data to find out the volume of different types and modes of traffic travelling through an area, the time it takes to get from one place to another, vehicle turning movements and the number and types of vehicles passing through sites. There are many ways of collecting data, including hand counts, automatic traffic counters (utilising predominantly tubes or inductive loops cut into the road surface), Interviews/questionnaires, video and drone footage.
